Wind Power Disadvantages
There is no doubt that renewable energy sources like wind energy are the way of the future. It is really only a matter of time considering the exponential growth wind and solar energy are experiencing.
However, some people are still stuck on the wind power disadvantages and are unwilling to accept this reality. I will admit that wind power systems are not for everyone but in my opinion, the disadvantages are far outweighed by the advantages.
Location
One of the biggest wind power disadvantages is that it is not the best option for big city areas. Two of the most important things you need for wind power are a good mounting location and access to wind. In big cities with tall building and less open space, wind tends to get interrupted which is not very convenient if you want to set up a wind turbine.

This means that your wind turbine will be getting less access to wind than it would if you lived in a more open area. Another aspect that can be tricky in crowded big cities is finding a good mounting location.
Predictability
Another of the wind power disadvantages that makes the list is wind predictability. Wind predictability is more area specific. Some areas of the country, or world, get very consistent winds while other areas tend to get very little wind on a regular basis.
It is always important to check your area wind and weather patterns to see if wind power is a good fit. No matter what, your wind power generator will generate power but the payback can just take longer. In many of the areas with less wind, solar power tends to be a much better and more viable option.
Expensive Systems
Wind power system costs can also be one of the wind power disadvantages, but not always. Sure, there are some wind turbines that are very expensive, especially when you consider the cost of the parts and installation. But this is not always the case.

Noise
One of the wind power disadvantages that I all too often hear but that is not always relevant is wind turbine noise. This is the noise or humming sound that is generated from the spinning of the blades. This is typically only a problem with the larger wind turbine systems. The larger the system and blades the more noise power that is produced.
But most people who are putting together these larger systems are not doing so in residential areas. They typically purchase large plots of land, far enough away from people that the noise is not an issue. However, the small wind turbines that are typically used for residential wind power are typically not a problem.
You should take into account these wind power disadvantages when determining whether or not wind power is for you. But I assure you that it is a very viable source of alternative energy that is gaining more and more ground as we speak.
