Solar Power Products

Initially this technology was applied to the commercial generation of power and later branched out to residential solar power use and many other solar power products.

The application of Photovoltaic (PV) technology is almost limitless and the more it is used on products instead of other forms of non-renewable energy the better for all of us. It helps us preserve our natural resources and enjoy a cleaner planet.

Commercial and Residential Solar Power

The most common use of PV technology is the generation of power for both commercial and residential use. These solar power products have been used for decades as a clean way of generating the electricity these homes require. Solar power systems have improved dramatically over the years and today represent a very efficient and flexible way to generate free power from the sun.

Portable Solar Power

Similar applications of this type of solar power products are used in more portable situations. There are a number of PV systems that can be used on boats, RV’s and as a reliable power supply for off-road activities like camping and hunting cabins.

The semi-permanent versions of these solar products that are used on boats and RV’s usually have PV panels that mounted to a flat surface and supply DC current to charge batteries or power electronics. This is a great application of this technology that will generate power for these boats and RV’s wherever the sun is shining.

Other smaller portable solar power products have also begun to emerge that allow you to put this PV technology to use with a wide array of portable electronics like mobile phones, iPods and laptops.

These portable solar power supplies are available in several varieties depending on your need. Some of these solar power products provide a portable solar panel that can be placed in the sun to charge your portable device directly. Others include a battery that is charged by the solar panel attached to the device and then used to provide additional power to the portable product.

If you are interested in one of these, try to find one that has a universal connector like a USB plug for providing power. This way you can avoid the expense and confusion of needing to carry additional cables with you.

Solar Power Transportation

Another application of the PV technology is in transportation and this is a relatively new market. There are several manufacturers that are including solar panels on the roofs of cars to charge the batteries or run the electronics while the car is being used.

There are also several experimental planes that use PV banks on their wings to provide the power to drive their propellers. These planes are typically unmanned drones, but earlier this year a Swiss team achieved the first liftoff ever for a solar plane with a pilot onboard. They plan to circumnavigate the globe next year over a 25-day period.

Neither of these are widespread commercial applications yet, but as they improve they will become solar power products available to everyone. Before you know it they will be using these newly developed technologies in many of the common products you use today.
