Green DIY Energy is a solid do it yourself solar and wind power guide that claims to save you $10,000s of dollar by building your own home wind and solar power system for a fraction of the retail cost. For well under $200 you can put together solar panels that if purchased retail, would cost you $1125. But if you are willing to put in a little additional work into collecting the materials, they claim that you can build these panels for under $100.

As I’ve said before, I’ve reviewed well over a dozen of these guides and not all have been able to deliver what I’m looking for. But I was very interested in Green DIY Energy’s approach to finding the cheapest materials and wanted to give it a try for myself. The first thing that tipped me off that these guys were legitimate is that their manuals and videos were great. Often times when people advertise something that seems “too good to be true”, they end up under-delivering in one area or another. But this was not the case.

Because I’m often asked for recommendations on kits and products, I’ve now added the Green DIY Energy guide to my list. I highly recommend it to people who are either on a tighter budget or those who enjoy the challenge of seeing what they can put together for the least amount of money. Trust me, it can be quite the challenge.

But that is exactly where I believe this guide excels past the competition. They really do focus on helping you find the cheapest parts around which is quite noteworthy. I understand that not everyone has $200 to put into these renewable energy projects which is why this guide is so great.

I have talked with people who are making panels for under $50. They even provide some tips to help you find some free solar panels. I’ve found some of these free solar panels myself and although they do require some work, you can’t beat the price!

I still wanted to make sure that this Green DIY Energy review covered the basics as well which is why I wanted to comment on other aspects of this product. The manual was an easy read and very informative. They also provided some really good mounting and installation instructions that were up there with the best. I also liked that they added an energy consumption guide to show you how much money you can be saving with solar energy. This goes along great with the solar tax credits and rebates guide to help you save the most money possible.

Another thing I thought was really worth noting in this Green DIY Energy review is that they provide great video instruction which was filmed in Boulder, CO. Boulder is considered somewhat of the “green” capital of the country and where many of the best and leading green technologies originate. It’s a beautiful place and these videos are exceptional.

Being an electrical engineer, I sometimes need a reminder that support is oftentimes critical for those who are less technically inclined. Green DIY Energy has put together a great support system including an online forum so that you can join the rest of the Green DIY community and get all the help you need. Trust me, it makes a huge difference in both help and motivation to talk with others who are in your same exact shoes.

All in all, Green DIY Energy is a great product that does indeed deliver on its promises. I still get emails from people who are excited to tell me about how cheap they built their last solar panel. And I would advise you to take full advantage of their 60 day, no questions asked, money back guarantee. There is no point in paying for this guide if it isn’t right for you.

Feel free to send me any comments or questions about this Green DIY Energy review in case I missed or was unclear about something. I’ll be sure to update it.
