What I love about this guide is that it is the most complete and time tested guide and contains anything and everything you need to make building your home power system as easy as possible. They go above and beyond the call of duty by providing excellent step-by-step video instructions to ensure that you can’t do it wrong. They also provide everything you need from parts lists, to a solar calculator, to mounting and installation instructions, to wiring plans, to wind maps, and even all of the forms you need to get your solar tax credit and rebates that you are entitled to.

This guide really focuses on helping you find the cheapest parts around which is quite noteworthy. The exact guide uses the example of building a $98 solar panel but with their help and a little elbow grease, you can even do cheaper. Plus the video instructions are great!

So, if you’re looking to save a little bit of cash compared to some of the other guides on the market or you want a clear cut, no fluff added, guide with high quality video instructions then I highly recommend Homemade Energy.

Best Educational Guide – Energy 2 Green Average User Rating:
Energy2Green takes the learning beyond solar and wind power. They have also included a couple of bonuses which in my opinion are some of the best. They included a “Planning and Installing Bioenergy Systems” bonus which is a whopping 238 pages of educational material including all different aspects of alternative energy including: solar bioenergy, biogas, liquid biofuels, small combustion systems, and large scale heaters. They also took the time to include a great 11 part video series that covers over 60 minutes of video instruction of building a solar panel from start to finish.
